Process Overview

This implementation case is the first solution in Korea to achieve residential window Assembly automation by combining KUKA industrial robots with a proprietary robot gripper and High Payload Track Motion. Space Workshop introduced the window Assembly automation system with the goal of reducing construction costs and producing modular homes of consistent quality.

 Project Background and Purpose

At existing construction sites, skilled technicians manually Assembly window frames, consuming long working hours and requiring a large workforce to meet the diverse demands of building owners. Furthermore, the spacious workspace and complex robot operation environment made real-time monitoring difficult and limited process management.

The purpose of this project is to drastically reduce working time through the automation of the window Assembly process, ensure consistent quality by establishing a standardized production system, and maximize the efficiency of process management through a real-time production monitoring system.

Components

Robot

KUKA KR 210 R3100 Industrial Robot: With a maximum payload of 210kg and a working radius of 3,065mm, this robot is optimized for heavy-duty tasks and high-precision movements. ; Proprietary robot gripper and High Payload Track Motion: Performs various tasks such as aligning and moving wooden materials, Assembly upper and lower windows, and moving frames.

Peripherals

SOLlink Industrial System: Supports the rapid identification and response to production delays by monitoring robot and work status in real time.

Workflow

STEP 1.Material Input: Precisely aligns and moves wooden materials using a proprietary robotic gripper.
STEP 2.Window Assembly: Automatically Assembly the upper and lower sections of windows according to a modular production system.
STEP 3.Frame Movement: Robots safely and accurately move the Assembly wooden frame.

Key Features

  • Various openings can be Assembly : Customized Assembly is possible through a modular production system with 42 different patterns.

  •  Production Process Automation and Monitoring : By monitoring robot and work status in real time, rapid problem response and efficient process management are possible.

Implementation Results

Key Metrics
Increased Work Efficiency: Work time has been reduced by 30โ€“40% compared to manual labor, leading to improved productivity. Cost Reduction: Construction costs were reduced through standardized production and a decrease in defect rates. Ensuring Quality Stability: The automated system enables the continuous production of homes of consistent quality, regardless of skill level. Mass Production Capability: Windows and doors for various wooden houses can be mass-produced within a short period with a small number of workers.
Client Feedback
Space Workshop stated, โ€œThrough the automation of window Assembly , we were able to maintain consistent quality while simultaneously reducing construction costs and time. Thanks to the real-time monitoring system via SOLlink Industrial, efficient process management became possible, and our ability to respond to issues on the production site improved.โ€

Project Overview This case marks Korea's first automated solution for modular housing window assembly, combining a KUKA industrial robot, a custom-designed robotic gripper, and a High Payload Track Motion system. Space Factory introduced this automation system to reduce construction costs and ensure consistent quality in modular housing production. Background & Objective Traditionally, skilled workers manually assembled window frames on-site, which was time-consuming and labor-intensive. Meeting diverse client requirements also demanded a large workforce. In addition, the wide and complex work environment made real-time monitoring and process control difficult. The goal of this project was to automate the window assembly process to significantly reduce work time, establish a standardized production system for consistent quality, and enhance process management through real-time production monitoring.

Process Overview This project involved the introduction of automated loading/unloading to ensure uniform heat treatment of the carrier mid-planet , a key component of automotive transmissions. The client implemented automation to address several issues arising from the previously manual process, particularly the increased defect rate and inefficiencies caused by worker s. Hyundai Robotics' HH050 six-axis industrial robot was utilized for this purpose, automating various tasks such as product stacking, pin insertion, and tray placement , ensuring high productivity and stability.
